Hydrate hydrate hydrate!! We’ve all heard it, and for good reason too. Water is one of the most essential elements we need to keep our bodies running smoothly.

It is your body’s principal chemical component and makes up about 60 percent of your body weight. Every system in your body depends on water.  
Here are some of the functions and benefits water provides our bodies:

  • Carries nutrients to your cells

How much water do you need?

Most people have heard of the “Drink eight 8 ounces of water per day”. However, this advice doesn’t take into account gender, age, or level of activeness, making it more of a general base/guideline to follow.

Instead, aim to drink enough fluid so that you rarely feel thirsty and your urine is colorless or light yellow in color.

How to drink more water:

Add some flavor

If just plain water is boring to you, try adding some natural flavors like fruit (watermelon, lemon, orange, etc.) or even some mint to add a little twist to your water.

Always have it available

Take water with you wherever you go, whether it’s to the mall, the gym, or the office, having in sight and at arm’s reach will make it that much easier for you to stay hydrated.

Invest in a reusable bottle

Having to continuously purchase bottled water can put an unnecessary dent in your wallet (not to mention be harmful to the environment). Instead, find a reuseable water bottle that you can carry with you wherever you go. Not only will this save money, and remind to drink your share, but will also reduce waste  one water bottle at a time.

Make "Gulp Goals"

It may sound weird, but tracking your water intake can be very helpful.  Try setting goals throughout the day like “I’m going to drink 32oz of water before lunch, and another 32oz before I get off work..”. Even set an alarm on your phone to help remind you throughout the day if necessary. You could be surprised how much more you will gulp down.
